Losing weight and staying in shape is much different at 50 than it is at 25. This is about my journey from weighing 270 pounds to getting back in shape at age 53. Can it be done without having a stroke or heart attack? I sure hope so! I will not buy a weight loss program and I will not buy special equipment. If God wanted us to have all that we would have been born with it. Follow me on my journey and see if I crash and burn or get back feeling good about myself.
All my life I have been active in sports or have been doing something to keep my body in shape. In high school I played football, basketball, and track. At 20 I went into the Army, went through Army Airborne Jump School, and worked out daily. After I got married I gained nearly 50 pounds after I quit smoking and after my wife got pregnant with my first child but eventually lost the weight by riding a bicycle nearly 20 miles a day. In my 30s I began to run again reaching 5 miles a day, five days a week. Whether I was hurt or just stopped after being satisfied I reached my goal, I quit each exercise regimen only to gain more weight.
With the help of my daughter Mandi and the support of family and friends, my plan now is to get back into shape and develop a lifestyle of healthy exercise until old age makes me quit. I don’t know what will work and what won’t, but in the end I will have discovered the right path to optimum health. This blog is the record of my journey. I invite your comments, suggestions and any other input you may have.
